Avital (Tali) Kellerstein,
M.A., M.H. Sc., S-LP, PROMPT Cert.
I am obsessed with my field. . . in particular, the little corner that analyses how kids speak, and how to help kids with trouble speaking. This passion led me to pursue my PROMPT Certification (2013). At The Speak Boutique, I treat children for difficulty in areas of articulation, phonology, and motor speech, as well as stuttering, language and occasionally literacy.
Prior to becoming a Speech-Language Pathologist, I completed my M.A. in English, and taught English as a Second Language. The more I taught and studied English, the more fascinated I became with its components such as phonemes (sounds), and morphemes (grammatical markers). This led me to explore and pursue a career in Speech-Language Pathology, where I could marry my love of teaching, with my interest in language.
After graduating with my M.H.Sc. from the University of Toronto, I practiced as a Speech-Language Pathologist in the (Motor) Speech program at The Speech and Stuttering Institute (SSI), where I gained extensive experience treating children with moderate-severe motor speech disorders. My interest in this area of the field led me to pursue the rigorous PROMPT certification process, and I am one of fewer than ten PROMPT Certified S-LPs in Canada.
In 2015, I began to work full time at my home-based clinic, The Speak Boutique.
